About Me and my work
Hi my name is Rachel Julca. I create mixed media street scene pictures, brooches, decorations and design clothing. I take inspiration from my surroundings in Ireland. I first started my business in 2014 after I first designed my original design at a cross community course I attended for women in business. For my final project i wanted to design an image I could use on a table which displayed the jewellery I made.
#myweecolouredhouses
I wanted to design something uniquely me and thought the best place to start would be my own home. I took pictures of the things I LOVE and used them as inspiration to make my design. People loved the design I did on the cloth and I soon realised that it was gaining more attention than the jewellery! I decided to make some products with the design on and for about 8 months at the Fine & Dandy Fair in Belfast watched and listened and evolved my products accordingly. Soon the ceramic pictures I had made were getting all the attention and thanks to encouragement from my friend Trevor Woods from Mount Ida Pottery I began to refine the idea.

The Artist
My business has evolved at an exciting rate of knots over the few years. The secret is listening to what the customer wants, not diluting my ideas and being passionate about what I do. In 2017 I gave up my job to take the reins full-time and when I say full time it’s 24/7. I divide my time between creating the actual ceramic pieces at home where the kilns are and making up the pictures in the studio which is in the beautiful Conway Mill in Belfast. It’s an old linen mill and it’s an amazing place to spend everyday with other Artists @themill
